Man wtf is up with these ridiculous pirate attacks

So here I am playing a 1 vs 1 against the computer and hordes upon hordes of 50+ pirate ships keep destroying all of my planets.... like wtf wouldnt they have to have like 10 planets themselves to support all those ships? And their ships are all stronger than mine.... lol...

This game is ridiculous with the pirates.

You can turn them off when you start a game - or simply bid more on your opponent so they bother him instead.

Pirate ships arn't stronger than your ships, pirate ships don't even have shields. Thats not to say that one of your ships is going to be able to fight off 10 pirates. It just means if you have a decent sized force you'll be ok. I've found that 4 or 5 turrents with 2 repair bays can hold off pirates for... well the game only went on for 2 hours, so lets say 2 hours. It might have taken them a long time to kill the pirates, but I wasn't losing any turrents because of the repair bays and my opponents were wasting credits buying pirates that couldn't do anything.

Actually, the pirates are an element that adds a bit of fun to the game...making things not so predictable. Learn to deal with their shenanigans. Spend money to have them attack your opponents and use their weak ships as fodder to level your cap ships up. Take over the pirate system before the game ends and win the Pirate Baron achievement.

Or you could turn them off, I guess.

I figured out how to easily and cheaply stop them in my first game. :/

Planetary defenses, while not quite effective at stopping the AI, do wonders to halt most pirate raids. Plop down two repair stations, two or three fighter bays, and a bunch of stationary guns and you should have yourself a nice little pirate roadblock. Of course, any ships in the vicinity will help and get xp along the way.

I can not think of a better way to Power Level up my Capital ships.

Pirates are great. They provide a spark of unpredictability in what can otherwise turn into a methodical, step-by-step game. They serve the same purpose as the barbarians in the Civ series.

And yes, they are brilliant at levelling up capital ships!

I have never lost a planet because of pirates. Enemy fleets, yes, but not pirates. Thier fleets look intimidating, but decent planetary defences will always hold them off long enough for a small defensive fleet to be built and/or arrive.
