Lovcraftian Themed Mod

Just for speculation's sake, I wanted to create a post about creating a Lovecraftian Mod for this game. I love reading H.P. Lovecraft's work, and while it may not easily translate into a fully playable mod, I find the idea to be intriguing. The chaos that is the Elder Gods swarming to control the hapless minds of minor races to fight for control of the universe. The Capital ships could be incarnations of the Gods themselves, and depending on the scripting later available, a sanity attribute could be added in for additional effect. What would a Lovecraftian game be without sanity loss. I know my idea is a little out there, but to any of you who have read Lovecraft please join in if not just for fun!

I think it's going to be R'lyeh R'lyeh hard to come up with anything more than giant squids, though I think sanity loss could be a special ability that either paralyzes ships (like ion cannons) or makes them less coordinated. Also it may be possible to tie custom shaders to the ships so it would be fun to have a refraction/distortion shader to simulate non-euclidean geometry (could even do some really wacky things if we can play with post processing)

You could even do a race based off the inhabitants of the Dreamlands with old style Schooners for capital ships sailing through the ether of space. Just the very concept of the Dreamlands(a world of Dream) would give you a great amount of material to work with. But remember there is also the Mi-Go and the Great race of Yith as major players that could be introduced as races as well.

i think the idea is great, but that could be really hard to realize.
but still, it would definitely rock (especially the bit about oldstyle ships in space fighting cthulhu and co. while losing their sanity bit by bit, underlined by space distortion and postprocessing overlays)
if anyone with skill has too much free time, go go go, no time to waste
