Ya know, if you actually read his preface for one of the books, he
himself commented on the fact that the story lacked any kind of "action" -- and that included ship
descriptions. Yes, he mentioned (in passing) some of the technology, but not the
ships themselves.
Your looking at the kind of area were the definition are
too broad, its going to be difficult to do this not because you have to follow the rules, but because you
have practically no rules to follow.
Edit: To clarify, I'm not saying this is impossible -- only that its so improbable that the project will take off as to [i]be[i] impossible. There is a distinction, even if I'm too tired to find the words to express it properly.
