Default ship designs sucks?

Hello there,

I'm not very good on the part of designing ships... and I want to know if the predetermined ships are any good.

And why they are so different from those of CPU? CPU tend to build Attack over 40 on their battleships, beside the Terran Overlord go for 15... (??)

They are 2 things to consider when designing a ship:

- the jewelery you add.

- the functionnal components you add

Default ship design may have a look that you want to keep, but their functionnals components will always be very basic compared to what you need or can add considering the techs you already know.

So you better to design always your ships, even if it just means adding component over a hull or over a defalut ship where functionnal components have been removed

As far as war ships, i never use the default ships. The exception to this is at the beginning of the game if i just feel like having some sort of military i'll build the basic fighter, but keep it on the planet.

I don't even build the basic fighter, I build a ship with one wepon for erly defense.

No. Simple as that, and valid for all normal+ difficulty levels.

I'm not very good on the part of designing ships...

To quote game designers (file GC2_Hints.xml, first hint):

Creating your own custom starships is not only fun, but it often makes the difference between victory and defeat.

Monitor what your enemies are building and counter their deployed defenses and weaponry with your own specialized starships.

Check what they have, go for tech that beats that, build ships using that tech, kick a..!

I don't use stock ships for anything. They're fine for your first game or two, but after that, build your own. It *is* fun.

To start with, you do not even need to worry about jewelry, just whack the weapons and engines streight onto the basic hull.

The advantage with weak ships is that they are much cheaper, however try to use the last weapon in the weapon type.

If you want to keep the look of one of the default ships but want it to be worth anything just upgrade the design in the shipyard. It will leave jewelry but remove all functional components. That way you can have a good ship without much work.

The default ships are horrid; if there was a way to delete them altogether, I would do so immediately.

Actually, is there a way to do that?

Easy, get hypnosis so you cannot see them even tho they are still there! lol

if you do use the default ships


when you redo them you will have to rename them. the easist way is to put a number behind the name.

The only usable default ship is a constructor. It is cheap. And after that colonize ship in the begining of the game.
