BSG would need an open connection map (ie, without Phase Lanes). IF an open connection map can be modded into Sins, then no problem (and I suspect it can be as that was how the original game was meant to be). IF it can't, then a BSG mod wouldn't work very well. Nor would Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5 mods work well without open maps.
I'm just going to jump on this, because I would actually have to disagree. Speaking of 'jump', the theory behind the BSG 'Faster Than Light' system is all to do with creating a compressed warp bubble around the ship, followed by bending the 'straight line' of space so its simply a matter of 'slipping' from your start point to end point.
Now, in BSG, particularly on the Galactica itself, all the calculations have to be carefully worked out beforehand. Because of this, I put it to you that they'd be plotting between astrological bodies such as stars, planets and solar systems in general.
You also have to take into account the affect of the infamous 'Red Line'. In my mind, the easiest thing to do would be to keep the space lanes, but use the concept of 'fuel' to limit the range of the ship. For example: The more mine-able asteroids you have access to with gaseous resources, the further the 'range' of your ships. I of course, unashamedly rip this straight from Galactic Civilizations, with a little creative invention of my own.
We've seen the Battlestars in action and we know they're absolute powerhouses as far as the Cylon forces are concerned. A Battlestar WILL go one and one with a Base Star and win. Of course, the snag where the Humans are concerned is that the Cylon's own FTL technology is a lot more effecient, so they wouldn't be limited by the number of natural resources available. They'd just need to take into account resources for ship construction, with the possible strategical ramifications of sticking close to the nearest Resurrection Ship if costly reinforcements are desperately needed.
Of course, just like in the series, the possibility of the Cylon forces establishing armadas around resources that humans so desperately need to increase fuel range and therefore expand becomes a very real and crippling prospect! Epic battle ensues
