I said that because they seem to have the broadest amount of options open to them, you want big fleet, you have big fleet, you want hit and run tactics, you do hit and run tactics, you want to build vast riches, you build vast riches.

Many options open to the TEC aren't for the other two, the Advent probably favour using mental powers over all out assault(brain over brawn in the most literal sense), the Vasari cannot build a large fleet, so open warfare is most likely limited to be a last resort. That is not to say the TEC don't have downsides, their fleets need to be large because of their primitive technology, but, if well played, other options can be pulled off as well. I didn't mean that the skill required was low, I meant it may be easier to survive.

Sure you can, if the opposing player isn't paying attention, and if he is he'll know what you're up to. On the other hand, if he/she isn't, well...serves him/her right.

as in the same reasoning as "oh, you can hide your ships right next to him. if he happens to not be paying attention"
or "sure, put all of your fleets smack dab on his central planet, he'll never notice!"

thats what I'm pointing out. you have to hope that he's not paying attention in order to pull off the "hide behind the moon" strategy.

I'm just saying that strategy works for anything.

next question: are there moons?

There aren't moons currently and I don't think any are planned at this point....

A legitimate tactic is sending some of your forces around to the opposite side of a planet while your main force keeps the enemy busy. While he's preoccupied, your forces are nuking his world with impunity. Of course, this strategy can be countered by the careful player in a number of ways too, but it's essentially the same as outflanking your foe.

Hello, new around here. I stumbled across the game while thumbing through PCG and was immediately hooked, (I've been a fan of this kind of game since MOOII, but got a lot more enjoyment out of Homeworld and Homeworld 2 (Cataclysm, not so much)).

As for the fourth tech tree, a few ideas immediately came to me. It could be the 'heretofore unseen alien tech' or simply once you have researched most of your race's technology, a 2nd tree opens up, giving you access to super science. Alternatively, perhaps you can capture and reverse engineer some pieces of an opponent's tech, although that may be grossly over balancing without some form of artificial limitations.

I look forward to participating in these forums as soon as I can get caught up with most of the posts.

I'm kinda glad that they can't. That may be fun for the person who is getting his butt beat but put yourself in the place of the person that is winning. It would suck to outmaneuver, outsmart, and outclass your opponet and STILL have the skirmish result in a draw (you killed his ships but he rammed and killed yours too).



Yea, that kind of thing sounds cool but you're right, it would present some serious balance issues. Say your in a 4 way ffa and the person you end up fighting first is the same race as you. You therefore have no opportunity to capture alien technology. Meanwhile players 3 and 4 are fighting each other and are of different races. They would be getting alien tech from each other. So when player 3 kills player 4 and comes after you he will have an advantage.
