observer mode

This is usually possible with a dedicated server. I haven't seen any mention of a dedicated server being supported, but I may be wrong.

not really sure how a dedicated server would work with this type of game though as its an RTS in sense

an observer mode would indeed be greatly appreciated

C&C3 is going to have a FREE observer client?? that's so cool. E-sports here we come.

On the other hand, a C&C game takes, what? at most 30 minutes? in extreme cases? My atention span for watching other people game ends there...
observer mode will very likely be integrated, but a standalone observer client? doubtfully.

blair said that most games here on SoaSE will be 30 minutes, maybe 45

the average ones anyway.

good, i dont have the time for long 4 hour battles that require my full attention

i might play one of those on singleplayer, but only because i can pause it when i need to go somewhere.

It depends on a person. I think it will be possible to inflict a mortal wounbd on the enemy. Weather they decide to keep playing till the enevitable resolution, that's up to the individual :/

A spectator mode would be great as long as it were guaranteed not to cause or to contribute to lag in any sort of a way.  The danger is that if you have a bad spectator, he could screw up the game by communicating information to one of the teams or players.  Even if spectator-to-players chat, friend chat, and whispering were made impossible, he could still be on voice comm with one of the teams.
