computer now pursuing technology victory in v. 1.2?

I have to say I like Civilizations tech victory better, its not just literally researching TECH VICTORY. You have to be the first to build a space ship, while obviously this won't work for GalCiv, something like that would be nice.

I've never seen the AI go for it... did you trade it to them? Or another tech along the Tech Victory branch?

was pursuing a technology victory in my last game. Late in the game I got the following message:

Needless to say I hurried up and finished researching that final tech! Has anyone else come across this message? Is it possible to lose to a computer opponent now via technology victory

they could have just stolen the techonlogy and that would cause this window to present its self.

Assension makes much more sense.
If you read the tech discriptions, it mentions humans transcending to a higher plane. Very similar to other excelent games like Alpha Centauri, which still is better then most of the civ games.

yea, they will go for tech victory now. i havent let it happen yet but i doubt you can stop it the way you can with influence victories tho. on the bright side they seem more than happy to trade you those techs tho so you can spend whatever it takes to buy the next-to-last tech as soon as you get the message then jam your research to 100% and hopefully beat them to the end. or give them the bums rush and try to masacre them before they complete it

what i WISH would happen is that civ would just self eliminate on completion, maybe getting some sort of point bonus for the final review, or perhaps a point penaly for you. if the last civ finishes with tech you could 'win' a badge for it. the 'home alone' badge

So, you believe that early 21st century-level civilizations have missiles that can a) reach into outer space (an area that an interstellar craft could reach in a negligible amount of time, if it wasn't built in orbit in the first place) and

once in space, can not only aim at but catch a target moving at relativistic speeds (if not outright FTL).

It IS a valid victory. You have a colony ship! Who cares about THIS world now? You can get a whole new world to yourself, free of all the conflict and bullshit of the game that lead up to it...

But the whole point of his argument is that the colony ship would presumably be built in low orbit, something like the International Space Station. Your telling me that you can't send a missle approximately 300 miles up, but that it can go to the other side of the world?

As to the FTL part, there is no FTL in Civ games. Thats why you have to have all the power, food, housing etc. for the ship. And even with a constant thrust, it still takes time to get moving. Pre-emptive strike anyone?

You know you wouldnt even need to be that close with a missle. All youwould need to do is hit above it and ot the side. Then you would have a slightly tilted rocket... slitly tilted rocks blasting off dont live very wrong.

And no, ascention makes more sense then a spaceship.

Its not like you can hide a launching platform. And if they built it in space... well thats just an easier target and it would costs alot more.

Acension could also be accompanied by the need to build some kind of super structure then you pull the switch....., before a tech victory is accomplished.

Kind of like the original civ, you need to build something and not just research...

Gives opponents one last chance to capture the colony building the "acendsion device".....
