Not that I could ever forget what this weekend's holiday is really all about, and the great debt that is owed to those that came before me and fought to ensure that Democracy would survive the great war, the war to end all wars, and all of the others that have happened along the way...
It seems that for at least once the usual idiots at TNT, or should I be more specific and say I'm referring to TNTHD - the HiDef version of TNT that was added a few months ago to the DirecTV HiDef package of channels, are running a movie in original aspect ratio. A film that deserves every bit of the bandwidth that could be mustered: Saving Private Ryan.
Saving Private Ryan is a great film, one of my all-time favorites, even with it's relatively recent appearance on the film scene. Tom Hanks performance is one of greatness, truly awe inspiring. Spielberg created a masterpiece in making the film, and it deserves to be watched as it was originally made.
I have the movie on DVD, and I do typically break out the DVD for special occassions. It was one that I was very proud and honored to add to my collection.
Anyway, while I've typically cursed TNTHD's non-sports programming as it seems that the people that run the station are too stupid to let viewers deal with "original aspect ratio" issues (black bars on tops or bottom of the screen to make sure the film looks right), I'll give them credit for treating Saving Private Ryan with the respect it deserves.
Thanks TNTHD for a well done airing.
