I've had the game since release and have been suffering markedly more slow down than it seems most people are reporting on the boards. I'm not entirely certain why that may be as my system is fairly good.
Symptoms:
1. When I access a colony screen or if a new colony is created it can sometimes take me several moments to actually build something. The game will literally lock as i try to click a tile or a item to be built for 10-15 seconds. If i click randomly on the screen I can hear the game "beep". The lock is such that it freezes my entire system because if i am running music in the back ground on winamp or something it will turn it off for a few seconds as well.
Sometimes the stutter is just at the beginning and works itself out, but sometimes it happens literally everytime i click a different build tile OR if i try to move to a different world using the next/prev buttons.
This slow bug seems generally unaffected by the length of the game and is just as likely to occur in the very beginning of the game as on a late gigantic galaxy. It is seemingly independent of the number of colonies i own.
2. Just recently I have had issues of the game refusing to progress past certain turns. In a recent save game i have in a huge,challenging galaxy the computer just stops when i hit the "turn" button. The game doesnt freeze, and I am capable of accessing my colonies or giving new directions to my ships but the turn never progresses. I waiting over 30 minutes and he never moved.
This seems to be happening more and more lately as it didnt used to do this regardless of game design
Changes i have made:
The only modifications to the game i have made is the starting number of planets the custom race receives. No other mods or changes. No hex editing.
My System:
AMD 3000+
GeForce 5900 XT
1 Gig 3200 ram
900 Gigs Harddrive space
Firmware, Chipset, Video Drivers are all up to date. I have performed system diagnostics, memtest, scan disk check, and defrags recently. I have checked for viruses and spyware.
