For some reason, I decided that I wanted one of the Torian planets. I think it was because I wanted a home base to build constructors for an influence starbase. I'm in the far right corner of the map and the Torians are in the far left corner. I built the influence starbase and started watching the worlds I finally picked Martin II. 12pq, no defenders, all the way in the corner, but lots of ground troops. So I sent over about eight dropships--and one freighter. Oops.
This is the story of Captain Enzo of HyperFreighter 4502. I decided to upgrade his freighter into a plain, run of the mill core transport. So now he was Marine Master Chief Enzo fo Transport 3453.
And he was the only marine on board.
I didn't know what to do. I didn't really want to pay to convert the ship into something more useful, and I didn't want to send him all the way home to pick up 499 buddies. So I decided, what the heck, and sent him in.
Now, the Torians were way, Way, WAY, *WAY* behind me in almost every respect--except number of planets. When Master Chief Enzo landed, the advantage was calculated at 48:8 or some such. Just Enzo against 13 billion defenders. I usually hit "skip" for this part, because it bores me. Not this time.
Master Chief Enzo wiped out 9 billion defenders by himself. For the first half of the battle he was raking 'em all down. The big siege engines. the tanks, the infantry. My sliver of red on the bar only moved once, but the green bar drained steadily. When he finally went down I just stared at the screen, shocked.
About ten minutes later, I finally recovered and sent another dropship in, this one loaded with a full complement of assault troops. They took nearly 50% casualties, but took the planet. ONE MARINE took out more than half their forces by himself, but these nitwits lost every second warm body mopping up his leftovers.
Master Chief Enzo was a true warrior, and will always be remembered.
