Hello I wanted to ask if GalCiv2s engine does polygon scaling. As in the farther back you zoom out the less polygons are rendered for objects? I've noticed even on tiny galaxies very low fps if you zoom out almost to the point where the objects become icons. Yet at this zoom level the objects are so small they lose their features anyway, so why does it have to struggle so hard to render? I have a pretty slow computer (1ghz Athlon 512 ram Geforce 3) and it gets tough to move around if I'm not zoomed out all the way or very close.
I guess polygon scaling would be tough to implement if it wasn't designed from the start but I've also noticed you can save polygons if ships that are alike are only rendered once per square. I've noticed groups of the same ships that overlap many times and it ends up looking strange anyway.
GalCiv 2 is an awesome game apart from a few bugs and fairly minor performance issues.
Also in a next patch could you please have it so when you click "return to planet" after going to the build ship screen it saves your change, instead of having to click "done" and have it dump you to the space map?
Also I think it would be cool to change the color of the fog. And also possibly be able to replace the nebula background with a solid color.
And one last thing I kinda wish whenever I select a ship it didn't move the camera to that ship. I feel the less the camera is moving around the easier it is to stay oriented (also easier for slower computers)
Again awesome game and don't think I'm saying these suggestions for me, I only mention them because I think they could make the game better.
