G'AH!!! WHY DOES SHE HAVE TO BE SO STUBBORN!
We began to talk about what america was found on, the basic principles. She insisted that america was founded as a christian nation, that those who don't accept that can go to hell. She said that those who willing don't speak english should be shipped back to their homeland. She said that our found fathers wanted this nation to be based on god.
I disagreed. I said that i felt that the nation, despite the fact that the founding fathers were religious (in their own way, primarily diesm, i believe) that they fought for the rights of whoever came to america, to believe in what they want. To speak their mind, hence the 1st amendment, etc... She wasn't even willing to accept my side. She said quote "we (the usa) are going down the path to our destruction - if we do not get it back to the principles it was founded on, we are doomed"
Again, I told her. That if we were intended to be *only* christian. Only have people who believe in God, then why isn't there anything in history that says "the founding fathers insisted...." (You fill in the rest)
Now, I do believe in a higher being, call it whatever you like. Thats the great thing about america, we can believe what ever we want...
