Greetings,
I believe I have found an error in the game related to how the ship design process works. I scanned the most recent bug posts and haven't seen a match - I may have missed an earlier post.
My earliest design was a heavy fighter that I neglected to add a description. I was able to build this design without any problems, but ran into my first crash when I tried to upgrade the design. I would change the ship design and would get a dialog saying "Do you wish to continue, any changes will be lost" Yes / No. If I said no I would exit the Shipyard, if I clicked yes the game would crash - sometimes I would exit to the galatic screen and see the description dialog for the ship. No matter what, it would crash.
What was even more interesting was trying to create a new ship design (larger hull class). I would get the same error and be unable to save the design. The pertinent portion of the debug.err was the following (repeated x5) line:
Debug Message: Error. String Not Found. Table: SDesignWnd String Name: NoFilter
While I don't think I can progress any further with the game I have created, I believe adding some kind of description in the beginning will avoid this bug. My drivers and system are current (Win XP Pro) and I have encountered no other gameplay issues.
I've seen several other suggestions about UI interface - I believe the scroll speed (allowing diagonal moves) and even keyboard support for shifting the map would be useful.
I played GalCiv 1 extensively and enjoyed the game greatly. The design team and interaction with the public have always been outstanding. I hope this note helps identify a bug and fixes things for other players.
