Apologies if this creates a double post; I tried posting this a few days ago and haven't been able to find it since.
I'm very interested in buying GalCiv2, but after seeing the two gameplay examples posted on this site, there's something that really bothers me. It appears that in example 1, the human (Altarian) player was washed out of contention by several unfortunate random factors, while in example 2, the human (Terran) player coasted to victory as the beneficiary of a few very lucky random events.
Obviously, the skill levels of players (human and AI) had a lot to do with the result of both games, but it appears to me that if you don't get lucky, superior skill won't be enough to win. Am I mistaken in this? And if not, is there any way to turn off random events in the game? I'd really rather have my fate decided by my choices than by a coin-flip.
Thanks.
